Hey, Andy!

I joined a group of artists last Tuesday as we immersed ourselves in the world of Pop art master Andy Warhol.   The Portland art Museum is hosting the  largest Warhol print retrospective ever presented.  It spans two floors of the Museum and showcases nearly 250 prints, including instantly recognizable images such as Warhol’s iconic Campbell’s Soup Can (Tomato) and Marilyn Monroe (Marilyn).  We had a blast!

This was my first time meeting this particular group of women, but we quickly became fast friends.  We were a bawdy bunch, laughing and having fun the entire time.

The exhibit was amazing in its diversity, with many pieces made during Warhol’s early career as a commercial artist.  There were sketches of his shoe designs, and this endearing little cartoon series:

Then there were the recognizable pieces that were a thrill to see.

and this….

and this….

After the exhibit, we all walked down the block and had lunch at a sushi restaurant.  (I had veggie raman, but was reminded of how much I miss eating sushi…)

Anyway…if you are in the vicinity of Portland, this is a show you don’t want to miss. It is bright and energetic and full of life.   Catch it if you can!
